The Christmas Tag

Christmas Tag

Being a newbie is a little daunting but my first foray into the world of blogging has gone better than expected. I’ve even managed to meet (is this the right word? Do you actually meet people online?) some very friendly bloggers on my social networking travels. So, in a bid to embrace all things blogging, I’ve decided to get into the Christmas spirit with Jenna from Tiny Footsteps and take part in the Christmas Tag …

What is your favourite Christmas movie?

While Santa Claus – The Movie will always have a special place in my heart, my favourite is definitely Elf. Who doesn’t love a bit of Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf?

Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?

Since I’ve been known to still be wrapping presents on Christmas Eve, it’s best to hedge our bets and go with Christmas morning. Not sure we’d ever get to bed if we let Wonderboy start opening presents on Christmas Eve!

Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

Too many to mention. I have wonderful memories of my little brother and I hurriedly opening our stockings while still wiping the sleep from our eyes. That boy could (and at 28yrs old still does) eat a whole selection box before breakfast – I kid you not!

I also have a lovely memory of the first time Wonderboy left out a snack for Santa on his first Christmas Eve. Lucky Santa was left a glass of beer and a carrot cake cupcake and baby Wonderboy put his hand into the beer and tried to lick it!! (Disclaimer – No babies were harmed in the making of this Christmas memory!)

Favourite festive food?

Does the whole of Christmas dinner count as one ‘food’? It’s literally my favourite meal of the year. If I needed to pick one favourite food from my Christmas dinner plate it would either be my mum’s roast potatoes or my own stuffing, but ideally I’d have both … with a lot of homemade gravy.

Favourite Christmas Gift?

While I was pretty impressed when Santa brought my brother and I an Amega 500 (yes, that’s how old I am!), my favourite Christmas gift without a doubt was when my husband, then boyfriend, gave me a Tiffany’s passport holder and luggage tag for going on a surprise trip in the new year. Winter is my favourite time of year and we hadn’t had snow for a couple of years. Turned out we were off to the Ice Hotel in Lapland for a snowy engagement! What an adventure.

Favourite Christmas scent?

Would it be greedy to talk about Christmas dinner again? Hmmm … a close runner up would be the slightly musty smell of the Christmas tree and decorations when they’ve been in the loft all year. That smell promises the start of Christmas for me.

Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

We did when I was little. We used to go to church as my brother and I would be in the nativity play and then we took it in turns each year to go to a friend’s house or our’s afterwards. Nowadays, the J family have a chilled day followed by going for pizza at night and obviously leave a snack for Santa. We did learn from our rookie mistake and now just leave Santa a glass of milk and cookies!

What tops your tree?

A natural twig star and a tartan bow from a present my Gran gave me years ago.

As a kid, what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?

I’m not sure if there was any to be honest. That said, I don’t remember ever really wanting something crazy, wild or extravagant – does Ronan from Boyzone count? I was allowed to ask for one thing each year and I don’t ever remember Santa not delivering – I must’ve been a good girl and made it onto the nice list!

What’s the best part of Christmas for you?

I love all the festivities in the run up to Christmas – a trip to see Santa, community events, putting the tree up. I’m particularly looking forward to Wonderboy’s first Christmas play this year though I’ll need to have tissues at the ready! The best part though is everyone having a stretch of time off and being able to catch up with family and friends more easily and more often. Any excuse for some tea and cake or drinks and nibbles is good by me!

Phew … that took a while. I nominate anyone who wants to join in with the Christmas Tag and if you don’t have a blog, just pop some of your answers in the Comments below.

All this talk of Christmas has got me in the festive mood. I’m off to dig out my Elf DVD and find some chocolate for tonight’s entertainment.

Happy weekend everyone x

Thanks Jenna – glad you like it. My husband is pretty thoughtful though this is definitely the most imaginative present he’s ever gotten me. It was the most adventurous few days I’ve ever had – definitely from another life though :) xx

Great post. We LOVE Elf the movie! We watch it every now and then throughout the year instead of just at Christmas, but the bad news is the kids have managed to LOSE THE DVD! Very annoyed, I doubt we’ll see Christmas before buying another copy!
